Barkerville, British Columbia, Canada
"Our client BGM mandated us to transport one of their electric tunnel boring machines used for gold mining at their former Barkerville mine site. The movement of the machine from the point of origin (named in law) to the destination of Wells, British Columbia went well under our supervision.
Once at the site, BGM had to move the TBM from one pit to another: the machine had to be moved 2.5 km to continue its excavation. Since the machine was only connected to an electrical extension and was extremely fragile, it was impossible to move it on tracks. The mine road was not designed for transportation and as the dismantling of such a machine takes several and thus a distinct loss of productivity, our client opted for an intact transportation solution.
In order to meet the customer's needs and to move the machine safely, we went on site to analyze it, plan the move by developing technical drawings and prepare the road for transportation.
On the day itself, the machine was moved under the supervision of the team, and because every step was well thought out, the transport went as planned, without a hitch.
This project is one of the many mandates that BGM has given us over the years. In fact, we wanted to thank them for their confidence in Summit to deliver their large-scale transports."
